It'd probably be better to get a set of trekking poles before getting to Chamonix, that way you have time to find ones that you like and have tried them out.Jason Lemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05015399764003009683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4125441165894592788.post-57743914798263666482017-04-24T22:59:13.661-07:002017-04-24T22:59:13.661-07:00Hi Jason, one more question... Did you fly with them in check-on luggage, purchase them in Chamonix, or were there not the same flying restrictions then as there are now?Astonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00797562311908654468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4125441165894592788.post-41109512737924090782017-01-17T20:17:41.834-08:002017-01-17T20:17:41.834-08:00Michael, I have not tried the Ultimate Direction P...Michael, I have not tried the Ultimate Direction PB 3.0 vest, but it looks fairly comparable. Try it out and see how it feels. 16 Liters is a good size, not too big and not too small, but it'll come down to personal preference. Try a few packs on for size, if you can. Or, I'm sure there are some reviews on the internet that you can find to help sway your decision. Best of luck!Jason Lemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05015399764003009683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4125441165894592788.post-3821114546735598112017-01-17T19:15:13.754-08:002017-01-17T19:15:13.754-08:00Thanks for the info, Jason. So I'm considering the Ultimate Direction PB Adventure Vest 3.0. Are you familiar with this pack (it's 16L) and how would you compare it to the Salomon? Cheers!Astonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00797562311908654468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4125441165894592788.post-55330932417990997692016-12-23T00:39:21.179-08:002016-12-23T00:39:21.179-08:00Hey Michael,

It came with an insulated bladder sleeve, so it can definitely carry a bladder, though it does not come with a bladder.

The reason I used the 12L was because I asked friends who have trekked around Mont Blanc, and they recommended about that size. I wouldn't recommend the 5L for a Mont Blanc circumnav. I then chose the Salomon pack because it's made of stretchy material that holds the contents of the bag close to your body, whether it's empty or full, and so things don't bounce around on my back.

The pack worked very well for my trip. I certainly packed it to the MAX and it held up impressively, though some of the stitching suffered from my over stretching the pockets. The pockets are cleverly placed so you can reach a lot of things without taking the pack off (with exception to the big compartment). The soft flask bottles are great, since they decrease in size as you use them, so there's no sloshing due to there being no trapped air in the flasks as you drink. The Salomon back is crazy expensive, but pretty well designed. Note, if you use a bladder with this pack, you'll have less space to pack things in the back compartment.

That said, it's helpful to try different brands of packs on to see which one fits best for your running style, especially once you figure out what you'll be packing for the trip.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

JbobJason Lemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05015399764003009683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4125441165894592788.post-42781926600031145462016-12-17T09:53:23.157-08:002016-12-17T09:53:23.157-08:00Hi Jason,

I think it's this one, but in a 12L: http://www.salomon.com/caus/product/s-lab-adv-skin-5set.html?article=371623

The Salomon site doesn't show a 12L in this pack. But they do have a 12L running pack that appears to not carry a bladder. As I use minimal water when I run, a hydration pack isn't really necessary.

Do you have any thoughts on this and these two packs (assuming I can even find a 12L like the one you used!)

Thanks!
Michael

Here's my email: michaellastonx@gmail.com
Astonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00797562311908654468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4125441165894592788.post-83572547125424573242016-02-15T17:07:43.209-08:002016-02-15T17:07:43.209-08:00Sorry, I forgot to include my e-mail!

It will count with an international competitive feature and short film exhibition involving street, trail and ultra running.
We are hoping to count with the City’s Government, as well as with private sponsors linked to the running business for financing and support.

Our main interest is to explore what keeps us running. The films we are considering approach this question with values such as perseverance, sense of adventure, humbleness, endurance, potential, friendship, triumph, insight, health, play and being in harmony with the environment.

After watching “JBob in Europe - Circumnavigating Mont Blanc”, we are certain that it would be perfect for this festival and we would like to invite you to present it in the 2016 Buenos Aires Running Film Festival.

Should you decide to partake, I would ask you to reply this mail as soon as possible, providing us a regular email account so we can send you the submission form as well as the terms and conditions for your material’s uploading.

As a courtesy for your early confirmation, we can exempt you form paying the entrance fee, as well as offer our collaboration with Spanish subtitling, providing you give us a full transcript of the film.

We hope you agree to be a part of this; it would be an honor for us as well as a good opportunity for you to show your work to the growing number of running fans in these latitudes.

Yours truly,
Verónica Segura, BRFF Artistic Director
www.veronicasegura.com
Verónica Segurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04001342714433142047noreply@blogger.com
